6th Grade - "Come Look at Me" Felted Wool Wall Hanging

The Sixth Grade Class has learned to sew!   After two class periods of learning the blanket stitch, students designed a tree as a place and symbol of growth, wisdom and exploration.   Students stitched together little circles and leaves out of recycled felted wool from old skirts and pants in order to fill the bow of their growing tree. Many kept sewing all sorts of special pieces, enough for pillows, too!!! Putting in many extra hours, students completed this labor or love.

A special thanks to Nancy Eakin, who sewed the wall hanging together, Beth DelDucco, who did a lot of blanket stitch work, and Susan Mittan who put the pillows together.

5th Grade - Wood Burned Adirondack Chairs

The class wanted to use flags as the focal point of their design to display the origin of each of their families and cultures from which they have been influenced. Each child burned a flag on each chair with a wood carving tool and was asked to extend the lines of their flag to create a pattern of rhythm.  Finally, they colored only their flags with oil pencils made just for wood.  There will be two chairs up for auction.

Thank you, Tracy & Jackie Probst, for generously donating these lovely Adirondack Chairs.

4th Grade - "The Banjo Lesson" Mosaic

"The Banjo Lesson" is a painting about the offering and receiving of life and beauty, the passing on of a good gift. A print of Henry Osawa Tanner’s painting, "The Banjo Lesson", was cut into 24 pieces and handed out to each student. They then took their piece and found matching colors and values in the pages of magazines and glued them to their section of the painting. When all the pieces were put back together, the students eyes grew with anticipation as the image became clear and was presented more like a mosaic than a painting.

This piece is beautifully framed by Patton Framing.

3rd Grade - "Welcome to the Table" Porcelain Bowls

The class was divided into groups of three and each group worked together to create a design for their bowl, using the elements of shape. These collaborative designs were then painted with glaze onto each sleek porcelain bowl. The bowls were made and donated by Harrisburg Area Community College’s Crafts and Market Program.

2nd Grade - "A Family Tree"

After going for a walk and closely observing some of the leaves that God made, students talked about texture and pattern.  They made leaf rubbings with graphite and then designed their own leaves, drew them onto foam and created prints with ink. As different as each child, the leaves on this tree are a tiny picture of unique beauty he has fashioned each person with!

This piece is framed and ready for hanging.  Winner's basic genealogical information will be added to tree by Mrs. McClymont.
